The Beatles Christmas Messages
In October of 1963, The Beatles made history as they began a Christmas tradition: Recording a custom Christmas message to their fans, giving them an update on what they’ve been up to that year and wishing Happy Christmas to all. The idea came from publicist Tony Barrow, who’d seen those flexi discs that contained songs or messages. It began a 7-year tradition of The Beatles recording their own Christmas message for the fans, “The ones that paid the subscription of course”, said John. Hear all 7 messages in their full length, officially released by EMI in 2017 on vinyl 45 in a collectible, limited edition box. However, In December 1970, in the wake of the band’s break-up, the UK fan-club sent out a compilation album of all seven of The Beatles’ Christmas recordings, entitled From Then to You. The master tapes having been misplaced, the LP was mastered from copies of the original flexi discs. Excerpts can be heard on Joe Johnson’s Beatle Brunch.
